Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt a severe blow ahead of their Absa Premiership clash against Mamelodi Sundowns, with seven first-team players ruled out due to injury.
The Soweto giants released a statement on their official website, stating that a number of members from Steve Komphela’s team will be unavailable for selection due to injuries.
“Amakhosi’s medical team has been hard at work mending injuries to no less than seven players,” the statement revealed.
“The squad has recently been affected by an assortment of injuries to several players, giving Steve Komphela limited options in his selection.
“Centre back Teenage Hadebe, who is yet to make his debut in the Gold & Black jersey, is recovering from an ankle injury. The Zimbabwean has started jogging though, and should start light training in about two weeks.
“Defender Lorenzo Gordinho is recovering from broken ribs and will still be three weeks on the sidelines before resuming training.
“Gustavo Páez’s scintillating form, meanwhile, was brought to an abrupt end when he suffered an ankle injury during Kaizer Chiefs’ encounter with Baroka FC a fortnight ago.
“The Venezuelan striker will be in a protective boot for another three weeks before resuming his rehabilitation to full fitness.
“Fullback Kgotso Moleko suffered a knee ligament [injury] in the Sparta Macufe Cup last weekend. Moleko will be in a brace and will be out for six to eight weeks,” the statement read.
