Cape Town City captain Thamsanqa Mkhize says playing Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will be the ideal preparation for the MTN8-final against SuperSport United, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
The Citizens will be hoping to maintain their momentum heading into their mouth-watering fixture against Amakhosi after securing their place in the top eight final with a victory over Mamelodi Sundowns on penalties.
Mkhize says his side are solely focused on their home clash against Chiefs before turning their attention to Orlando Pirates.
‘Honestly, it’s a very important game [against Chiefs], considering we are playing a big team,’ Mkhize told reporters.
‘We’re playing at home, so it’s very important that we do well. That should serve as motivation for us whenever we play at home, we must make sure that we win and [when] we travel away we don’t lose.
‘So this is gonna be another opportunity for us to display our football on the field and to make our supporters happy. So, I believe we’ll do well as a club.’
The City captain has warned his side not to underestimate Chiefs, despite their slow start to the campaign.
‘I wouldn’t say that it’s a good or bad time to play Chiefs, as we all know [that] Chiefs is a big team and they can turn things around at any time,’ he added.
‘But I’m glad we are playing them now since even for us we are having that assignment that we’ve been doing well in the MTN8 and we want to keep the momentum. We want to make sure that we keep on doing well and prepare ourselves for the MTN8-final.
‘So yeah, we wanna play them now because after that we play Pirates… it’s a good preparation for the final.’
The match at Cape Town Stadium kicks off at 3pm.
