Kaizer Chiefs earned a hard-fought 1-0 win against Chippa United in the Betway Premiership on Sunday evening at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, marking their first league clean sheet of the season.
Determined Start by Chiefs:
From the opening whistle, Chiefs showed their intent by applying pressure through both the wings and central attacking plays. Wandile Duba created an early opportunity with a well-placed cross to the back post, which Yusuf Maart met. However, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali made a crucial save to deny the effort.
Chiefs finally broke the deadlock in the 45th minute with a brilliant solo effort from Mduduzi Shabalala. The young star skillfully bypassed Chippa’s defence and delivered a composed finish to give the home side the lead just before halftime.
Second Half Dominance
The second half saw Chiefs maintaining control with superior possession. Despite some promising chances, Chippa United struggled to retain the ball and build threatening attacks. Towards the end, Bienvenu Eva Nga came close to equalizing for Chippa, but goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma stood firm, making a vital save to preserve Chiefs’ lead.
The victory moves Kaizer Chiefs up to seventh place in the Betway Premiership standings. Along with securing three points, Chiefs celebrated a much-needed clean sheet, showcasing a solid defensive performance that will boost their confidence for upcoming matches.
