Chippa United have announced the departure of former Orlando Pirates winger Mark Mayambela from the club.
The 31-year-old has been with the Chilli Boys since 2018 after signing for the club from Ajax Cape Town.
Mayambela spent the last two seasons at Chippa, making 43 appearances in his second stint with the club.
The former Pirates winger leaves the club a few days after the retirement of veteran Daine Klate, who will coach the club’s MultiChoice Diski (MDC) team for the upcoming season.
Chippa chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi issued a massage to club captain Mayambela, which reads:
The gifted midfielder, who was brought in as both a player and leader to the club a couple of years ago, will be leaving the Chilli Boys in this transfer window.
The ‘Professor’, as Mayambela is known in football circles, has played a major role at the Port Elizabeth-based side; ensuring the growth of the brand Chippa United, guiding the young players in the team, being ever-present in the club’s CSI projects and forever availing himself when needed.
Mpengesi has lauded the playmaker for his role at the club, which includes the high professionalism the player handled himself in throughout his stay at the club, the sportsman he was both on and off the pitch, a proper role model to the youngsters at the club and broadly as a ambassador of the club Chippa United.
The Chippa United family will always hold Mark in high esteem for the footprints he leaves behind and will always have a special place in our hearts. We would like to wish him all of the best in his future endeavours and he will forever be welcomed at the football club.
Thank you Mark!
