Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has looked to squash speculation of Benni McCarthy joining Kaizer Chiefs by revealing that McCarthy does not want to leave the club before winning the Absa Premiership title.

McCarthy’s stock has been on the rise since joining the Citizens in his first job as a head coach. The former FC Porto striker built on a solid first season by winning the MTN8 and guiding City to a top-eight finish for the second consecutive season.

It has not only been Benni’s results that have caught the eye but also his philosophy and style of play which is centred around attractive attacking football.

With Amakhosi manager Ernst Middendorp’s future up in the air there has been a lot of speculation linking Bafana Bafana’s all-time leading goal scorer with the job at Naturena.

Comitis though has looked to warn off potential Benni suitors by revealing that the 41-year-old still has unfinished business in Cape Town

‘Benni has told us he wants to win the league and other trophies with us before thinking about expanding, possibly move to Bafana Bafana and abroad,’ Comitis told KickOff.com.

‘Our focus is looking at improving the team consistency, avoiding any distractions.

‘We have our own targets as a team and if we put more effort on that we won’t have any issues.

‘We just want to grow gradually as a team, we can’t put pressure on the boys.’
