Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that head of technical Erik Hamren has departed the club to become Iceland’s new head coach.
Hamren was only appointed to the technical role at Chloorkop seven months ago, but the lure of coaching a team who had impressed in the 2018 Fifa World Cup proved too much for the former coach of the Swedish national team.

Sundowns and Hamren have thus amicably decided to terminate his contract to allow him to take over as the new national coach of Iceland.
The Brazilians confirmed the decision in a statement released late on Monday evening which read, ‘Mamelodi Sundowns have announced that their head of technical, Erik Hamren, has been released from his contract to take over as the national coach of Iceland, which participated in the Fifa World Cup in Russia.
