I’m happy at Pirates – Mlambo

Xola Mlambo Xola Mlambo
Published on January 15, 2019

Orlando Pirates midfielder Xola Mlambo insists his main objective is to improve his game while focusing on helping the club succeed this season.

The 27-year-old has proved to be a vital addition to the Buccaneers setup and has been a regular starter since making the switch from Bidvest Wits during the 2018 January transfer window.

The former Chippa United midfielder has since made 33 appearances in all competitions for Pirates, scoring one goal and assisting a further five, while only missing seven games in the process.

Mlambo has downplayed the chance of linking up with the Bafana Bafana team for their exploits in the African Cup of Nations by declaring that his focus is on doing well at the Soweto giants.

‘To be honest, my focus is at Orlando Pirates and when I’m given an opportunity to play here, I’m happy,’ Mlambo told the media.

‘I definitely have to work my socks off to help the team because, looking at the squad that we have, we’ve got so many quality players.

‘Whenever given an opportunity, you have to respect the people outside [of the line-up] and give your utmost best.

‘Whatever happens happens, but mainly I have to focus on improving my game each and every time and help the team when I’m given the opportunity to do so.’

Orlando Pirates will now welcome Horoya to the Orlando Stadium when the two sides meet for their Caf Champions League Group B encounter on Friday with kick off set for 6pm.
