The veteran defender penned a pre-contract with the Clever Boys during the January transfer window, ending a two-year stay with Cape Town City, where he won the Telkom Knockout in his first season with the club.
Johannes, who is approaching his 14th season in the top flight, says that the club is hard at work during pre-season as they look to put last season’s nightmare behind them.
After winning their maiden PSL title during the 2016-17 campaign, Wits suffered something of a post-title decline as they finished the following season in 13th spot on the table.
Wits went from having the second-best defensive record to the third-worst defensive record, which prompted Gavin Hunt to snap up the services of the experienced defender.

Johannes says that pre-season has gone well thus far, citing the need to put in the hard work beforehand if they want to benefit.
‘So far so good, pre-seasons are never easy,’ he told FourFourTwo.co.za.
‘It’s loads of hard work, but we all have to put it in, to reap the rewards during the season,’ he stated
The former Orlando Pirates defender says his main objective is to continue playing regular football while helping Wits win silverware in the process.

‘I always set goals, targets and hope to achieve them. I want to continue playing regularly, but with saying that, the team is the most important thing. I want to win trophies and I know I’ve joined the right team for that,’ he added.
Johannes has touted Wits for success in the new season, citing the mood in the camp.
‘The mood’s good. The guys look hungry again. I think this season things can only get better.
‘This is a big team, a group of winners with a coach [Gavin Hunt] that knows how to win, so it’s going to be a successful season for the Clever Boys,’ he concluded.
The Premier Soccer League have confirmed that the 2018-19 Absa Premiership season will kick-off on Friday, 3 August with Johannes expected to make his debut for the Clever Boys.
