Bloemfontein Celtic coach Steve Komphela and defender Alfred Ndengane have been named the Premier Soccer League’s Coach and Player of the Month for August.
The Celtic duo have become the first recipients of the Absa Premiership Coach and Player of the Month for the new season, as they scooped the individual awards for August 2018.
Komphela guided his side to an unbeaten start to the new campaign, which saw them claim three wins and a draw while racking up a total of 10 points during the month of August.
Siwelele managed to secure victories against Chippa United, Golden Arrows and Orlando Pirates. They also found the back of the net on seven occasions while conceding just two goals in the process.
The Free State-born coach fended off competition from the likes of Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt and SuperSport United’s Kaitano Tembo to win the monthly award.
Meanwhile, Ndengane was named Player of the Month for his impressive display in defence which saw Celtic have the best defensive record in the league prior to the Fifa international break.
The Celtic defender played a crucial role in helping the club keep three clean sheets from their first three games of the season.
For winning the awards, Komphela and Ndengane will each receive R5,000 from Absa.
