Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says he will go back to the drawing board as Amakhosi prepares for their final Absa Premiership clash against newly-crowned champions Bidvest Wits on Saturday.
The Glamour Boys are currently placed fifth in the Absa Premiership standings with 47 points and have won 12 out of 29 matches played so far this season, trailing the Clever Boys by 13 points.
The 49-year-old admits that his side didn’t show up on the day and insists that a lack of composure in their back line led to them conceding an early goal.
“There’s nothing much to say,” Komphela told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
“I am disappointed to say the least. We didn’t play at all; especially in the first half we were lethargic.
“This is not on. We only started playing after conceding the goal. And, look at their goals. Once again we let ourselves down by lapses of concentration in the box. We didn’t show the hunger to win this match.”
Enocent Mkhabela’s 44th-minutee goal sealed the victory for Dikwena, and Komphela believes that they deserved the win, as they showed more hunger and desire to collect all three points.
“Stars deserved this win. They showed hunger and they didn’t allow us space to play – credit to them. As for us, it is back to the drawing board to rectify this situation,” he added.
The Amakhosi coach continued to say that his side have to up their game if they want to stand a chance of beating the students.
“We are going back to training to prepare for the last game of the season. To win that fixture we will need improvement from tonight’s performance.”
“Congratulations to Wits. They have done well and Gavin Hunt deserves praise for his sterling job with his team,” he concluded.
The match at the FNB Stadium kicks off at 15:00.
