Mamelodi Sundowns left back Lyle Lakay is hoping his glowing form form the Brazilians will help him earn a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad.
The 27-year-old has been in fine form for Sundowns since making the switch from Cape Town City and has already scored in two consecutive games against SuperSport United in the Tshwane derby before bagging a goal in their 5-1 victory over Leones Vegetarianos in Caf Champions League
Lakay, who has already featured three times for the South African national team, is hoping to do well and score more goals for his club in the hope of receiving the call from Bafana coach Stuart Baxter.
‘The confidence keeps growing. If you score the first one, you feel confident for the second one and the third one,’ Lakay told KickOff.com.
‘I am excited. I am hoping to grow from this performance. All I have to do is to keep working hard, keep doing the same things I have been doing up to now. Not be big-headed or anything, but continue working hard.
‘[I am] hopeful to be in the Bafana Bafana team, but first I have to contribute to the team. If you contribute first to the team personal glory comes afterwards. If you do well for the team, hopefully you will get a call-up.’
Mamelodi Sundowns will now turn their attention back to the Absa Premiership when they take on 2018 Telkom Knockout champions Baroka at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday with kick off set for 7:30pm.
