Kaizer Chiefs’ Yusuf Maart has explained his role in the midfield following his Man of the Match performance against Maritzburg United on Tuesday evening.
Amakhosi finally got off the mark in the DStv Premiership after they secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over the Team of Choice at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
Goals from Ashley Du Preez, Keagan Dolly and Mduduzi Shabalala earned Amakhosi their first points, moving them up to second place in the league standings on three points, while Maritzburg are placed in 14th position with only one point.
The Bafana Bafana midfielder admits it was not easy for them to come into this match after losing their opening game against Royal AM over the weekend.
“We sticked to the gameplan,” Maart told SuperSport TV afterwards.
“We said I have to go as a ‘six’ and we need to have [Siyethemba] Sithebe and George [Matlou] on the sides, where we can operate in the half spaces where they can collect the ball. I just need to pass them.
“To be honest, it’s not easy because we played away but every home game, we need to work harder and put the effort in. We did put the effort in and got the results that we wanted.”
