Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lebohang Maboe believes that he should be in contention to be named this seasons Premier Soccer League Footballer of the Season.
The 24-year-old made the move to Chloorkop from Maritzburg United at the beginning of the campaign and many questioned whether the youngster will get the necessary game time to continue his development.
Maboe, however, has proved all the doubters wrong as he has forced his way into the team, becoming one of Pitso Mosimane’s regulars.
The forward has played in a variety of positions and roles this season as he has bagged eight goals and five assists in 22 Absa Premiership matches, while he is also Downs’ top scorer in all competitions.
This sort of form has certainly put Maboe in contention for the top individual award and he revealed during a media at Chloorkop on Thursday that he sees him self as a candidate.
‘Yes, I would [consider himself as a candidate] I mean I’ve been doing well and it’s not up to me to judge that, but all I can say is that I have been doing well for the team.
‘I’d say I still have a lot to do and a lot more to offer. I still need to be more clinical in front of goals and take the right decisions at the right time. I feel like I’ve done well in my first season here.’
Maboe and his Sundowns team mates though have other things to focus on as they are set to host eight-time African champions Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday with kick-off at 3pm.
