We made Chiefs look like world beaters – Benni

Benni McCarthy issues instructions to his players Benni McCarthy issues instructions to his players

Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy says the Citizens have learned from their mistake against Kaizer Chiefs and have shifted their focus to their next Absa Premiership encounter, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

The Citizens slumped to a 4-1 defeat to Amakhosi at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday after a brace from Khama Billiat and goals from Siyabonga Ngezana and Philani Zulu cancelled out Matthew Rusike’s first half equaliser.

The defeat sees City drop down to 12th place in the PSL standings with five points from their first five games.

McCarthy admits that his side did well to deal with Amakhosi in the first half but were caught napping in the second half after being reduced to 10-men when Taariq Fielies was shown his marching orders.

‘We looked like a team that [was] star struck, we made Chiefs look like they’re world beaters, up until they scored and then we started settling our nerves and then we started playing like we supposed to start the game and got our confidence back,’ McCarthy said.

‘But the second half, we [went] to sleep again and then they hit us with a counter attack. [But] we take it; we move on and learn from the mistakes and what to do in the next situation when we do go a man down.

‘Chiefs took their opportunities and well done to them. A loss is a loss, we lost the game and now we have to focus on the next one.’

Cape Town City will be hoping to bounce back when they take on Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday with kick off scheduled for 7:30pm.
