The Premier Soccer League acting chief executive Mato Madlala hailed Bidvest Wits after they were crowned Absa Premiership champions for the first time in the clubs existence.
Bidvest Wits were recently crowned as the 2016-17 Absa Premiership champions, following their 2-0 victory over Polokwane City at the Bidvest Stadium in Braamfontein.
The PSL acting chief executive heaped praise on the Clever Boys after they won their first title in 96 years of the club’s history.
‘The 2016-17 championship race will go down as one of the most impressive and highly contested battles in recent history. I would like to commend all the clubs that put a spirited challenge to the top honours,’ Madlala told the Bidvest Wits website.
‘At the end of the day there can only be one winner, and this time it was Bidvest Wits who earned the top prize. We would like to congratulate the club for this historic achievement. I’m certain that they will savour this moment for a very long time.’
The PSL and Absa will hand over the Absa Premiership trophy to Bidvest Wits on Saturday, 27 May 2017 at the FNB Stadium.
Bidvest Wits will be hoping for a positive finish to their 2016-17 campaign when they take on Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
