Magesi grabbed a crucial 1-0 victory in the Betway Premiership against Golden Arrows in their bid to remain in the top-flight at the Seshego Stadium on Saturday.
Golden Arrows held the majority of the ball possession in the first half, however they fell short when Lehlegonolo Mokone opened the scoring for Magesi in the 27th minute after receiving an assist from John Mokone.
Most of the battle was in the midfield with Arrows also having a few opportunities in the attack. Manqoba Mngqithi’s side struggled when it came to the final third, falling short and unable to produce a single attempt on target upon the halftime whistle.
At around the 55th minute mark, Arrows attacker Knox Mutizwa played into the far post but went to ground, appealing a penalty. The referee waved to play on as the pleas were not a legitimate spot kick call in her books.
A goal saving tackle was made by Magesi’s Delano Abrahams as Mutizwa set up Sibusiso Sibeko through on goal in the last 10 minutes of play.
It turned out to be a frustrating afternoon for Golden Arrows who didn’t really challenge Dikwena tsa Meetse keeper Elvis Chipezeze in terms of goal attempts, as they lost out on a share of the points in Limpopo.
As for Magesi, it was an important victory in their quest for survival in the Betway Premiership as they went all the way up to 10th position and tied on points with Cape Town City in the league standings following the result.
