Maritzburg United midfielder Mlondi Dlamini has passed away after being involved in a car accident on Sunday afternoon.
The 20-year-old was recently promoted to the first team after impressing for the MultiChoice Diski squad, but had yet to make a senior appearance in this campaign due to an injury.
The Team of Choice chairman Farook Kadodia confirmed that Dlamini passed away on Sunday, and said that the club will release a statement on Monday.
“It was a car accident and the club will make an official statement tomorrow morning. We were only aware of this earlier this afternoon,” Kadodia told Independent Media.
“We want the parents to come back from the police station because we were only informed now about the loss. So the club will make a statement tomorrow morning.”
Dlamini has become the second Maritzburg United player to lose his life after Mondli Cele passed away in a tragic car accident last year, following their 3-3 draw with Orlando Pirates on 17 January 2016.
FourFourTwoSA would like to send its heartfelt condolences to Dlamini’s family, friend and teammates.
