Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp admits that points are the only thing that matters now as they head into their final Absa Premiership clash of the season against Baroka FC.
Amakhosi maintained their place at the top of the league standings after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Chippa United at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Soweto giants are now level on 56 points with second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Polokwane City, but Amakhosi still have a greater goal difference of three.
‘It’s about points now. It’s about winning. I’m fully aware about that. It’s what presents Kaizer Chiefs there’s no doubt about it. You could see today there was two days less recovery time,’ Middendorp told SuperSport TV.
‘They played on Friday and we played on Sunday and this makes a huge, huge difference. We had a lot of players before the game already, I was aware about it how far it is possible to bring them through.
‘Good, I’m very happy with the entire team, technical team and players that we have on what they have gone through and successfully. It was a win with a lot of fighting spirit and that’s something we needed today and need on Saturday.
‘The management of the game, there’s no doubt about it. We have simply seen the ball possession, giving away in a situation where we could have played four against two. I’m all aware about it. I’m all aware about it.
‘But let’s not let everybody know from the outside. Nobody knows what is going on here with the players in the bubble, more or less you are a little bit inside the prison. You fighting for life, expectations are there, you get mails whatever in terms of everybody has an idea and everybody knows better and then you go again and again.
‘You want it. You want each and everything. It’s a fantastic team on what we have seen here today and that is what it is about at this stage nothing else.’
