Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp admitted that the club would be interested in signing Bidvest Wits and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Darren Keet should he be available.
Keet is entering his final six months of his contract at the Clever Boys and has reportedly keen to make the move back to Europe.
The Bafana Bafana shot stopper, who has spent two-and-a-half at Wits after returning home from Belgium Pro League outfit KV Kortrijk.
Wits manager Gavin Hunt, however, revealed last week that Chiefs are interested in the keeper.
No, I haven’t [spoken to Keet]. Maybe Kaizer Chiefs [have] – I heard they want to sign him, so we’ll see,’ said Hunt.
Middendorp was subsequently asked about Chiefs’ targets in the January transfer window and he admitted that there is interest in the 29-year-old keeper.
‘I heard Gavin Hunt was throwing Darren Keet on the market.
‘If he wants to release him, we can definitely take him,’ said the German tactician.
Middendorp though added that the Soweto giants aren’t desperate to add to their squad despite the long-term injury to number one keeper Itumeleng Khune.
‘We have quality keepers even in the development. We not planning to sign anyone, besides if there’s any available.
‘Why should we run around like headless chickens in this window period, we have good quality,’ he concluded.
