Cape Town City midfielder Teko Modise says all is not lost and encouraged his side to bounce back, following his side’s loss to SuperSport United in the MTN8 final on Saturday night.
The Citizens were minutes away from claiming their second major title after Sibusiso Masina’s strike put them ahead, but a late goal from substitute Thabo Mnyamane, coupled with penalty shoot-out heroics from goalkeeper Ronwen Williams sealed the title for Eric Tinkler’s side.
Modise, who has racked up almost every trophy on the domestic scene, is still without an MTN8 winners medal, having formed part of the losing team in the final on three occasions.
“Anything is possible. It’s football and there’s still next season again,” he said in post-match comments.
“For us to do that, we need to finish higher this season, so we need to focus now and be better.
“The game was actually open and I feel we should’ve won.
“SuperSport were just catching us on the counter-attack. They put more numbers forward. We were actually the ones who had opportunities to hurt them, but we didn’t utilise the chances.
“As I said earlier on, it is a game of football; if you don’t score, you are not going to win the game,” he concluded.
City resume their campaign with a league encounter against Bloemfontein Celtic at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday, with kick-off set for 19:30.
