Mosimane not pleased with Sundowns’ passing

Pitso Mosimane cut a frustrated figure, despite his side claiming a 2-0 victory against Bidvest Wits in their league encounter on Tuesday night.

Khama Billiat came off the bench to net a brace as Sundowns put the defending champions to the sword. However, Mosimane wasn’t too pleased about his side’s passing in the clash.

“It was a little bit of a tight game in the first half, I was not happy with our passing in the first half,” he said in post-match comments.

“We couldn’t get our triangles right, we couldn’t get the simple passes right.

“We came better a little bit in the second half because like a game against Orlando Pirates our subs lifted the game.

“Khama [Billiat] came in to score and obviously Wits were going to come at us so I increased the speed up front. ‘Vila’ [Sibusiso Vilakazi] could have scored two, Percy [Tau] could have scored two, but it’s okay because they created the chances. But I’m not happy with the passing, we could do better with the passing.

“Our build-up was not good, but what we did very well was to make sure ‘Keke’ [Hlompho Kekana] must stay on [Thabang] Monare not to turn and pass the ball forward because he’s a good player. And make sure Xolani [Mlambo] doesn’t have enough time on the ball, that helped us a little bit.

“We didn’t allow them to have balls in the box by crosses, and you know when they brought in James Keene and have [Amr] Gamal you know what’s going to happen because it’s their strength to put the ball in the box through crosses and look for a header, but Bangaly [Soumahoro] had a good game. Unbelievable game Bangaly had,” he concluded.

Sundowns’ next assignment sees them face Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off set for 15:30.
