Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has revealed that while the club is interested in signing Phakamani Mahlambi from Al Ahly, they probably can’t afford him.
Mosimane is a known admirer of the young Bafana Bafana star and his pursuit of Mahlambi has been well publicised over the last month.

At the beginning of August, Al Ahly slapped a €2-million price tag on the midfielder, with the club’s director of transfers Mohamed Fadl admitting that ‘Phakamani doesn’t want to continue with Al Ahly and we have got approval from Patrice Carteron to sell him. We can’t force him to stay.
‘But we can’t buy Phakamani for €1.3-million and then sell him for only €500,000,’ he added on the price tag of the transfer.
It has been reported that Sundowns could send officials to Egypt in an attempt to thrash out a deal.
Mosimane, however, admitted to the media this week that although the deal makes sense for Sundowns, they probably won’t be able to afford it.

‘Am I interested in signing a 20-year-old, whose quick, Bafana player, big room for improvement?
‘I see him following the route of 20-year-old Bongani Zungu who we signed and went to Europe. We signed a 20-year-old Keagan Dolly and he went to Europe. We had Percy Tau from 16 or 17 and he went to Europe,’ added Mosimane.
‘Does it make sense to sign Phakamani? If I look at the reference of what I have said, I think it makes sense. We like him, but we probably can’t afford him,’ concluded the former Bafana Bafana coach.
The South African transfer window closes at midnight on August 31st.
