Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele has revealed that he would welcome Andile Jali with open arms should he choose to sign for the Amakhosi.
The Bafana Bafana midfielder confirmed some time back that he was targeting a move back to the PSL.
Having left Belgian Club KV Oostende last month, Jali is now a free agent with all of South Africa’s top clubs chasing him.
It is believed that the midfielder will have his pick between Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, but Mphahlele is hoping that he chooses Naturena.
The defender was speaking to the media during the Shell Helix Cup launch, which is set to take place at the FNB Stadium in July and will see Sundowns and Chiefs fight it out for the trophy.
‘It’s no secret: Jali is a great player. If the management can manage to bring him to Naturena, then it would be great,’ said Mphahlele.
‘Obviously, it’s for Steak [Bobby Motaung] and them to work on the move, but he’s a great player and he’s welcome at the club.
‘Football is about competition and we would really, really appreciate someone like him if he were to come.
‘His character is amazing – on the pitch he is something else. I know sometimes off the pitch he gets funny, but on the pitch you can rely on him in terms of marking, playing and scoring goals.
‘I’ve been with him since U20 and look, it would be nice if he comes to Chiefs. He’s a great player and he will obviously come and add value to the team.
‘Any team can do with a great player like Andile Jali. Sundowns can do with him, Pirates can do with him, you know, he’s an international player.
‘If you get a player like that in your changing room then it gives you a little advantage because you know you have someone ready to take off, so he will add value to the team,’ he concluded.
