Knowledge Musona has admitted that he wants to leave Anderlecht to a club where he will be loved but also admitted that he does not think any South African team could afford to buy him, including former club Kaizer Chiefs.
The Zimbabwean striker, who is currently competing at the African Cup of Nations, endured a tough 2018-19 campaign where he only played eight games for Anderlecht, scoring just the one goal, in the first half of 2018-19.
The former Chiefs fan favourite was then loaned out to Lokeren for the remainder of the campaign‚ where he scored another goal in six games.
Musona has subsequently made no secret of his desire to leave the Belgium giants after just one season.
Speaking after Zimbabwe’s 1-1 draw with Uganda at Afcon, the ‘Smiling Assassin’ admitted that he wants to leave Anderlecht for a club were he will feel loved and appreciated, although he does not think a South African club could afford to buy him out of the remaining three years of his contract.
‘Of course. There will always be speculation around transfer windows,’ said Musona.
‘I don’t know what to say. But at the moment I’m here‚ and I have a contract with my team. As soon as I finish I will go back to training‚ and we will see what happens.’
‘Ja‚ they love me there in South Africa. When the time is right‚ I will go [back]‚’ added Musona on his love for the country.
‘South Africa is my home‚ so not only one [club]‚ but the whole country. I can go anywhere.
‘I don’t know if there are any teams from South Africa who are able to buy me out of that contract. It’s going to be difficult‚ I think.’
Musona was then asked by journalists about his next move and admitted that he doesn’t necessarily need to be playing in Europe.
‘A great move‚ a good team‚ where I can play football and enjoy. I don’t know (if it will be in Europe). But I just want to go where I’m being appreciated – where I’m being loved,’ he concluded.
