After weeks of speculation, Orlando Pirates have officially announced that head coach Jose Riveiro will leave the club at the conclusion of the current season.
The Buccaneers released a statement acknowledging Riveiro’s professionalism and dedication during his tenure with the Soweto giants, adding that no further comments would be made on the matter at this time.
The club statements reads, “Orlando Pirates Football Club confirms that José Riveiro will step down as head coach upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season. The Spanish tactician has informed management of his decision not to extend his stay beyond the current agreement.
Riveiro’s professionalism and commitment to the club’s interests have allowed for an early announcement, ensuring stability for the remainder of the campaign while enabling the club to plan for the future.
In line with the coach’s request, the club will withhold further detailed statements for now, with proper acknowledgments to follow at a more suitable time,” the statement concluded.
The announcement brings an end to Riveiro’s spell with the the Baccuneers after three incredible seasons, with the focus now shifting to the club’s search for a successor.
The Spanish coach will leave Pirates having won three MTN 8 trophies and two Nedbank Cups, while being in contention for the Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League this season.
