Bidvest Wits midfielder Steven Pienaar has revealed that Gavin Hunt’s influence played a crucial role in his decision to join the Absa Premiership champions.
The Clever Boys recently launched their new home and away kit for the upcoming 2017-18 season as they prepare to defend their Absa Premiership and MTN8 titles.
The 35-year-old says he is relishing the chance to don the Wits jersey, but admits that he is still trying to settle into his new surroundings.
‘There were other options, but when I met with the coach he was more interested in my family and that touched me. It was easy to decide,’ Pienaar revealed at the kit launch.
‘I’m getting used to the guys and the way they play. I’m getting used to it and my fitness levels are improving as well.
‘When I left I was young, it’s different and the pace of the game is higher. I have to get used to it, I’m excited for my first game.
‘I’m catching up. Pre-season is always tough, but it’s what we need to do.’
The Citizens have already captured the services of Teko Modise, Ayanda Patosi, Jeitoso, Lyle Lakay, Taariq Fielies and Craig Martin.
Bidvest Wits will start their 2017-18 campaign when they defend their MTN8 title against Golden Arrows at the Bidvest Stadium on 11 August
Kick-off has been scheduled for 20:00.
