An early Peter Shalulile goal fired Mamelodi Sundowns to a tight 1-0 win over weakened SuperSport United who were hit by a Covid-19 outbreak leading into the game.
SuperSport announced pre-match that the club was hit by a Covid-19 outbreak which saw head coach Kaitano Tembo and a few players miss the clash, while Sundowns re-called Themba Zwane and Denis Onyango.
Despite the issues leading into the game Matsatsantsa got off to a good start as with just five minutes gone Ghampani Lungu forced Denis Onyango into a top save with his snapshot from 12-yards out.
Sundowns began to find their rhythm as Zwane and Peter Shalulie linked up four minutes later to devastating effect as the Namibian found the corner after latching onto Zwane’s through ball to hand his side the lead.
Downs then suffered a setback just before the half hour mark as Thabiso Kutumela was taken off on a stretcher with Gaston Sirino replacing the forward.
Downs continued to dominate possession of the ball but were struggling for their regular fluency and were thus struggling to break down a determined SuperSport side.
The Brazilians in the end holding on for a tight 1-0 win to maintain their healthy lead at the top of the DStv Premiership.
