Despite Kaizer Chiefs going on a winning run in September which catapulted them up the log, Giovanni Solinas has admitted that he still wants his team to improve, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
The Italian coach was awarded for his side’s good form in September with the Manager of the Month award as Chiefs won all three of their Absa Premiership encounters.
The first fixture, which came straight after the international break, was against Cape Town City. Chiefs were brilliant on the day as they thumped the Citizens 4-1 in Cape Town. They followed that up with 2-0 victories over Free State Stars and AmaZulu.
Speaking at the awards press conference, Solinas ― who previously mentioned the time spent with his team in the international break as one of the reasons for their change in fortunes ― was asked if the team is where he wants it to be.
‘In football, you can always improve,’ responded Solinas.
‘We need to continue to improve every game and get the results because we are Kaizer Chiefs. Kaizer Chiefs must compete to win trophies.
‘I am happy with my team and my players because I am lucky because I have a nice squad with outstanding players.
‘The credit [for his award] is for the players and for the effort they put in everyday in the training sessions. It is for the commitment, the respect they have for the club, but our focus is always to try and improve.
‘This is the mentality,’ concluded the Chiefs coach.
