Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy wants there to be a winner at the Soweto Derby in order to keep the pressure on log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Amakhosi are set to lock horns with the Buccaneers for the second time this campaign when they meet at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Ahead of the Soweto Derby, the Glamour Boys currently occupy third place on the log with 35 points, while Pirates are in second place one point ahead of their Soweto rivals with 36 points.
McCarthy says he wants to see an entertaining clash between the Soweto giants, having played to a draw in the last three meetings between the two sides.
“It’s number two vs number three on the log, so one team will have to win to place more pressure on Sundowns,” McCarthy told KickOff.com.
“We’re all hoping to see a game as exciting as Sundowns vs Pirates at Loftus, where two teams want to go at each other with no holding back.
“If they’re going to go into the game with a cautious approach and play for a draw, then both teams may as well say to Sundowns, ‘go on and take the league.
“For me, I definitely feel if Chiefs and Pirates want to maintain pressure on Sundowns then we will have to have a winner in this weekend’s Derby.”
The match at the FNB Stadium kicks off at 15:30.
