Orlando Pirates midfielder Ben Motshwari believes that the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs is no different to any other game, saying the three points is all that matters, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
Motshwari, if selected in Milutin Sredojevic’s starting XI, will be playing in his first Soweto derby at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon after making the move to Pirates from Bidvest Wits in the off-season.
While the derby is subjected to a special type of hype and focus, Motshwari admitted to the media in the buildup to the titanic clash that they are treating the match as if it was just another game, with the three points the main focus.
‘For me personally, obviously, it will be my first derby.
‘This game we are going to take it as any other game we have been playing,’ said the midfielder.
‘There has been no difference in the preparation for this match, while the one key thing and the only important thing in the game is to focus on the three points.
‘It is very exciting for us, because it’s going to be my debut in the derby, but for us the three points is the three points.’
With Pirates sitting second on the Absa Premiership log, just two points above third-placed Chiefs, the three points could prove to be a vital launch pad and confidence-booster for the side who come out on top.
