SuperSport United have announced the arrival of Bafana Bafana right back Siyabonga Nhlapo, after securing a permanent transfer deal from Bidvest Wits.
The-28-year-old has come in as a replacement for the departed Michael Boxall, who was released from his contract earlier this month.
Nhlapo, who featured for Bafana Bafana during their Chan qualifier against Botswana, has now joined Matsatsantsa on a three-year deal.
The club’s CEO, Stan Matthews, says the club has been keeping a close eye on the right back for a few seasons now and has been impressed by Nhlapo’s showing for the Clever Boys.
“Siya is a player who we have been watching for a few seasons now. He has represented Bafana Bafana, having been called up by each of the last three national team coaches [Gordon Igesund, Shakes Mashaba and Stuart Baxter],” Matthews said.
“We have watched how well he did at Bidvest Wits, playing a major role in their 3rd- and 2nd-placed finishes in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons, and with Grant Kekana doing so well in our last few games last season we look forward to the contest for the right back spot.”
With over 70 league appearances for the Clever Boys over the last four seasons, and a short loan spell at Highlands Park, Nhlapo brings a wealth of added experience to the Pretoria team.
