Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala believes that the message from the fans is simple, they want trophies, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
The trophy drought endured under Steve Komphela has begun to irk the Amakhosi faitful according to the vetran midfielder.
The Naturena based outfit are without any silverware since the departure of Stuart Baxter in 2015. Chiefs won a number of titles during the Englishman’s successful reign, winning the Absa Premiership on two occasions, the Nedbank Cup and the MTN 8. However, they have failed to replicate this under Komphela and the fans frustration is beginning to show.
When asked by the media what the Chiefs fans had to say on the streets, Tshabalala said “The message is clear and simple, we want trophies. They want us to win games, [they] just [want us to] put smiles on their faces.”
“They say; win us at least one this season,” added the Bafana Bafana winger.
Chiefs do have a real shot at silverware this season having progressed to the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup. They will up against Free State Stars in the semi-finals. If they make it through to the final, they will face either Maritzburg United or Mamelodi Sundowns.
Can Kaizer Chiefs please their supporters and pick up at least one trophy this season? Only time will tell.
