Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp will put their Absa Premiership campaign behind them and focus on the upcoming Nedbank Cup final against TS Galaxy.
The Glamour Boys finished the 2018-19 league campaign in ninth place after their 1-0 defeat to Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on the final day of the season.
Amakhosi have now failed to book their place inside the top eight and will now miss out on the chance to play in next season’s MTN8 tournament as a result of their final position on the PSL standings.
However, Middendorp is disappointed that his side failed to qualify for next season’s MTN8 tournament, but is hoping to bounce back and end their trophy drought by defeating TS Galaxy in the final of the Nedbank Cup.
‘We have to regroup quickly and find the right atmosphere going into the next match,’ Middendorp told the club’s official website.
‘It is no use at this stage to dwell on what happened. It goes without saying that we didn’t qualify for the top 8 and that’s a disaster for a club of Chiefs’ magnitude and expectations. It’s a huge disappointment.
‘We will not allow this result to hamper our plans,’ he added. ‘It’s water under the bridge and the challenge is to get ready for the next game.’
Kaizer Chiefs will take on TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 18 May with kick off set for 7pm.
