Mamelodi Sundowns forward Percy Tau says he is relishing the chance to play against Spanish champions Barcelona in a club friendly at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday.
The two sides have previously met in 2007 when the Catalans came from a goal down to beat Masandawana 2-1 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium when goals by Santiago Ezquerro and Marc Crosas cancelled out Suprise Moriri’s early opener.
Tau says the friendly will give Sundowns the opportunity to test themselves against one of the best clubs in the world.
“It’s going to be a great game. We also want to see if they can deal with the things that we do at Sundowns,” Tau told KickOff.com.
“We know them – we’ve watched them, but then we also want to see if they can deal with our [attacking] movement as well.
“We can also test ourselves, because we’ve tested ourselves at the Fifa Club World Cup, where we picked up a few things.
“Now we want to test ourselves against the best and see what we can do.”
The 24-year-old forward says he can never compare himself to the likes of Lionel Messi, stating the Argentine star is on “another level”.
“Maybe it [the comparisons] is because we both use our left foot. But no, it’s not pressure, I’ll never compare myself to that guy – he’s on another level,” he added.
Mamelodi Sundowns against Barcelona kicks off at 18:15.
