Saffas: Mothiba becoming household name in France

Bafana Bafana international Lebo Mothiba extended his excellent goal-scoring form, netting the winner to spoil legend Thierry Henry’s coaching debut for AS Monaco.

KAMOHELO MOKOTJO

The Bafana midfielder came on as a second-half substitute as Championship outfit Brentford extended their winless streak to seven consecutive games in all competitions. Brentford now languish in 12th position after conceding an 89th-minute winner against Bristol City.

MAY MAHLANGU
The Stars of Africa academy graduate failed to make the match-day squad as Bulgarian outfit Ludogorets beat Levski Sofia 2-1 to move into pole position on the table after 12 games played.

LEBO MOTHIBA

Mothiba added to his rising stock in France as he netted the winner for RC Strasbourg minutes after being introduced as a substitute against Ligue 1 giants Monaco.

The magnitude of the clash was amplified due to it being Henry’s first-ever match in charge of Monaco.

Mothiba’s side occupy seventh spot on the Ligue 1 table, 15 points behind table-toppers Paris-Saint Germain.

DINO NDLOVU

After doing duty for Bafana in their 2019 Afcon qualifying tie against Seychelles, the burly striker returned to the starting XI for Chinese second-tier club Zhejiang Greentown who beat Yanbian Funde 2-1 to remain second on the table after 28 matches played.

LEBOGANG PHIRI

Phiri made only his fourth appearance of the season when he came off the bench in Guingamp’s 0-0 draw away in Caen. Phiri’s side are on a four-game streak without loss, but languish bottom of the table in the Ligue 1 standings with six points from a possible 60.

THULANI SERERO

The former Ajax Cape Town development product made his ninth appearance of the season and looked quite good on the field, but he could not do stop Vitesse Arnheim from succumbing to a 2-0 defeat to Excelsior.

Serero’s side occupy seventh spot in the Eredivisie standings with 12 points amassed from their nine allotted games.

LUTHER SINGH

The Bafana Bafana starlet was handed his first start of the season for Braga’s first team after impressing with the B-team. Singh featured for 84 minutes as Braga edged lower league outfit Felgueiras 1-0 in the Portuguese Cup.

PERCY TAU

Brighton loanee Tau played almost the entire game for Belgian club Union Saint Gilloise, who succumbed to a 1-1 draw against Roeselare.

The former Absa Premiership Footballer of the Year was taken off in the 89th minute of the clash with his side 1-0 up, but a 92nd-minute equaliser ensured Roeselare a share of the spoils.

Union Saint Gilloise slipped from first place on the table to third spot after 10 games played thus far in the league.
