All eyes on Arsenal’s Odegaard

Martin Odegaard has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season and is currently the most in-form midfielder in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old is currently in the best form of his career having a combined 13 goals and assists in just 17 Premier League appearances this season.

The Norwegian wunderkind burst onto the scene as a 15-year-old in 2015 after completing a blockbuster move to Spanish giants Real Madrid but struggled to make his mark due to their abundance of world-class midfielders such as Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and now Manchester United star Casemiro.

Underwhelming loan spells in the Netherlands stunted Odegaard’s development leaving many believing the young Norwegian couldn’t live up to the hype of his 2015 transfer.

Arteta and Arsenal took a chance on Odegaard after a successful spell at Real Sociedad and both player and club haven’t looked back.  The now 24-year-old looks to have finally found the form many believed he was capable of in 2015.

Odegaard has operated in multiple midfield positions but plays his best as an attacking midfielder behind the striker. He can directly impact the game and play a pass into space behind the opposition’s defence or look for a shot on goal.

The young star has been a crucial part of the Gunners’ success this season, picking up the captain’s armband and being voted Premier League Player of the Month for November and December 2022.

Arsenal will need Odegaard’s form to continue as they look to secure their first Premier League title under Mikel Arteta and their first since the immortalised Invincibles in the 2003/04 season.
