Africa’s top talents are drawing major interest—these stars must make the next step at the end of the season by joining Europe’s biggest clubs, writes DYLAN JOHNSON.
Ousmane Diomande – Sporting CP
Ousmane Diomande is rapidly emerging as one of Europe’s most sought-after young defenders. The Ivorian centre-back has been a standout for Sporting CP, blending strength, speed, and composure on the ball. At just 21, he played a vital role in Ivory Coast’s AFCON triumph in 2023 and continues to impress in Liga Portugal.
Although under contract until 2027, his performances have sparked serious interest from Premier League clubs. Diomande fits the mould of a modern centre-back—comfortable in possession, dominant in duels, and tactically astute. With Sporting in the thick of a title race, his stock continues to rise.
Kamaldeen Sulemana – Southampton
Kamaldeen Sulemana continues to stand out at Southampton, despite the club’s confirmed relegation after a difficult Premier League campaign. The 23-year-old Ghanaian winger is known for his explosive pace, direct dribbling, and sharp one-on-one ability. Often the brightest spark in Southampton’s attack, he’s shown he’s ready to thrive in the top flight—and should be on the move to stay there.
Carlos Baleba – Brighton
Carlos Baleba is quickly becoming a vital presence in Brighton’s midfield. The 21-year-old Cameroonian has adapted well to the Premier League since arriving from Lille in 2023. Comfortable both as a defensive anchor and a box-to-box midfielder, he brings balance, energy, and drive to Fabian Hürzeler’s side.
Brighton are renowned for developing young talent, and Baleba’s progress suggests he could be their next major export after Moisés Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister. With a contract running until 2028, the club won’t let him go easily. But for teams seeking a long-term midfield general, Baleba looks well worth the price.
Yoane Wissa – Brentford
Yoane Wissa is enjoying a breakout year at Brentford. The DR Congo international has scored 14 goals this season and impressed with his versatility, operating across the frontline in a lethal partnership with Cameroonian winger Bryan Mbeumo. At 28, he is in the prime of his career and looks ready to take the next step.
Wissa’s work rate, pressing, and movement off the ball make him a relentless presence up front. Brentford rejected a £22 million bid from Nottingham Forest in January, and with the possibility of Champions League football returning to Forest, another approach could be on the cards.
Ademola Lookman – Atalanta
Ademola Lookman has revived his career at Atalanta. After inconsistent stints in the Premier League and Bundesliga, the Nigerian winger has flourished in Serie A. Lookman’s dangerous dribbling, explosive pace, and goal contributions have made the 27-year-old a key figure for Atalanta and the Nigerian national team.
After struggling in England and Germany, Lookman has found his form in Serie A, becoming a reliable creative presence. However, he is set to leave Atalanta at the end of the season after a fallout with coach Gian Piero Gasperini. With his contract expiring in 2026, Lookman could move to Premier League clubs like Arsenal or Chelsea who are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements.
As the 2025 transfer window approaches, these African players are ones to watch. With strong performances this season, Ousmane Diomande, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Carlos Baleba, Yoane Wissa, and Ademola Lookman could be making moves to top clubs across Europe.
