Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi is confident his side has the capacity to lift any trophy that is still on offer this season.
The Brazilians sealed their place in the Caf Champions League group stages after claiming a 2-0 victory over AS Maniema Union in their second preliminary round clash on Sunday through goals by Lyle Lakay and Peter Shalulile.
Over the two legged fixture, Sundowns managed to record a 4-2 aggregate victory over the Congolese outfit to sail through to the next round of the competition.
Mngqithi insists that they’ll focus on each game as they come in the hopes of stamping their authority in every competition that still on offer this season.
“We are of the view that we’ve got a better team than last season,” Mngqithi said post-match.
“Even though last year we believed we had a very, very good team.
“If you can still remember what transpired last season. We performed very well and to score a goal against Al Ahly through Peter Shalulile who was adjudged offside. Because if that goal was allowed it could have turned that game into a different space as well.
“But the group that we have this year has been reinforced a little bit from what we had last year and we are very hopeful that they have got the capacity to win the Champions League.
“We have got to take each step, each game as it comes and see what we end up.
“But we are very confident that the group that we have has got the capacity to lift any trophy that is on offer, but we have to take each and every game and give it the seriousness and attention that it deserves.
“Each and every opponent then becomes critical in us achieving those targets.”
