Mykhailo Mudryk – Potter’s saving grace?

Graham Potter’s Chelsea are looking to resurrect their poor start to the season after beating London rivals Arsenal to the signing of Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk from Ukrainian Premier League side Shakhtar Donetsk.

Mudryk has had a sensational start to the season, recording ten goals and eight assists in all competitions with his performances in the UEFA Champions League, showing the biggest clubs in Europe he has what it takes to make the jump to the next level.

The 22-year-old winger has now become the most expensive Ukrainian in football history and the fourth most expensive player in Premier League history, after completing a 88.5 million pound transfer to the Blues.

Mudryk is most effective on the left wing coming inside to open space for a shot on goal or playing in a threaded pass for a teammate, while also just as capable of going to the by-line to whip in an effective cross or pass across the face of goal.

Chelsea have been underwhelming in front of goal and will look to Mudryk’s blistering pace and versatile attacking threat to link up with misfiring Kai Havertz, and fellow newcomer Joao Felix, when he returns from his three-game suspension.

The Blues take on fellow strugglers Liverpool this weekend with both sides looking to begin a positive run in the chase for Champions League football. Will Mykhailo Mudryk make his debut? Or will the Ukrainian wonder-kid be given time to settle despite Chelsea’s desperation?
