Premier League team of the week – Gameweek 14

Gameweek 14 opened up the Premier League title race.  Trent Alexander-Arnold bailed out the Reds for the second week in a row, Chelsea got a surprising win over Brighton and Spurs fought back for a huge point at the Etihad.

Take a look at SoccerMag’s best 11 performers from Gameweek 14 of the Premier League.

We used buildlineup.com to put our team onto paper, but our selections are explained below.
Goalkeeper:
Jordan Pickford – Everton
Everton have had their season turned upside with their 10-point deduction but they will not go down without a fight.  Jordan Pickford had a huge performance in goal for the Toffees who earned a much-needed three-points away at Forest.

Defenders:
Kieran Trippier – Newcastle United
Kieran Trippier has been one of the best fullbacks in world football this season.  His influence in both Newcastle’s defense and attack cannot be understated.   Trippier created Eddie Howe’s sides winner when he assisted Anthony Gordon with a great ball across goal.

Ben Mee – Brentford
Brentford have been a strong outfit this season.  Ben Mee has been a stalwart in the heart of the Bees defense.  The former Burnley center-back showed his quality with a dominant performance against Luton Town.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – Liverpool
For the second round in a row, Trent Alexander-Arnold has made it into our picks.  The fullback has elevated his game after his slump last season.  Trent scored a late winner after running the game from the middle of the park.  He is a special talent.

Midfielders:
Enzo Fernandez – Chelsea
Chelsea’s improved form is down to more than one player, but if there was an honorable mention it would be Enzo Fernandez.  The World-Cup winner scored a vital brace in the Blues win over Brighton.  Fernandez and Chelsea look more settled every week.

Martin Odegaard – Arsenal
After his absence due to injury, Martin Odegaard’s performance against Wolves was sensational.  Odegaard scored a fantastic goal but his overall display is what impressed.  He will be crucial if the Gunners are to stay top of the table.

Anthony Gordon – Newcastle United
Anthony Gordon is the perfect example of Eddie Howe’s ability to develop players from inconsistent to among the best in the Premier League.  Gordon scored the winner against Manchester United to round off an impressive performance.

Zeki Amdouni – Burnley
Swiss midfielder Zeki Amodouni has been one of the few positives in an otherwise poor Burnley season.  Amdouni got a goal and an assist in the Clarets huge win over relegation rivals Sheffield United.

Dwight McNeil – Everton
Sean Dyche’s Mr reliable, Dwight McNeil has been an important player for Everton this season.  McNeil scored a huge goal for the Toffee’s in their win over Nottingham Forest.

Forwards:
Ollie Watkins – Aston Villa
Unai Emery has taken Aston Villa to the next level and Ollie Watkins has been one of Villa’s greatest benefactors.  Watkins is now one of the most feared strikers in the Premier League and contributes every week.  Watkins got a goal and an assist in Villa’s draw with Bournemouth.

Dejan Kulusevski – Tottenham
Swedish winger Dejan Kulusevski has always been a great threat upfront for Spurs but under Ange Postecoglu his consistency has been taken to another level.  His ability with the ball and in 1 v 1 situations is a nightmare for any defender.  Kulusevski assisted Spurs second and scored an equalizer in the 90th minute to secure a massive three-points at the Etihad.
