Premier League team of the week – Gameweek 6

Gameweek 6 of the Premier League saw Manchester United return to winning ways, a stalemate in North London  and Newcastle United putting eight past Sheffield.

Take a look at SoccerMag’s best 11 performers from Gameweek 6 of the Premier League.

We used buildlineup.com to put our team onto paper, but our selections are explained below.
Goalkeeper
Bernd Leno – Fulham
Crystal Palace and Fulham was by no means an exhibition of the Premier League’s attacking talent with just eight shots on target between both sides.  Bernd Leno made saves when he had to.  The German’s third clean sheet of the season takes him to the top of the race for the golden glove.

Defenders
Dan Burn – Newcastle United
Newcastle born Dan Burn rounded off a memorable week with a goal and a clean sheet in Sheffield.  Burn’s performance was as reliable as ever with the big man developing into a criminally underrated Premier League defender.

Jonny Evans – Manchester United
Jonny Evan’s first Premier League start for Manchester United since his exit almost 10 years ago was formidable.  Evans had a goal ruled out for offside before beautifully assisting his captain Bruno Fernandes for the winner.

James Tarkowski – Everton
Everton’s shock win over Brentford has finally kick started their season.  Tarwkowski was dominant in the heart of the Toffee’s defense.  The central defender also played his part on the other end of the pitch, assisting Abdoulaye Doucoure for the opener before getting a goal in the second half.

Kieran Trippier – Newcastle United
Kieran Tripper may have been one of the few to not get a goal in Newcastle’s  8-0 win but the fullback undoubtedly played his part.  Trippier assisted three of Newcastle’s eight.

Midfielders
James Maddison – Tottenham
Spurs big money Summer signing looks to be a bigger bargain every week.  Maddison assisted both of Son Heung-Min’s goals against fierce rivals Arsenal at the Emirates.

Phil Foden – Manchester City
Foden is shining in Kevin De Bruyne’s absence.  The youngster has benefitted hugely from consistent minutes and got on the scoresheet yet again.  Foden is already among the best midfielders in the Premier League.

Kaoru Mitoma – Brighton
Kaoru Mitoma made a match-winning cameo against Bournemouth at the Amex.  Mitoma scored a second half brace to secure the win, helping Brighton bounce back after their disappointing performance midweek.

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool
Liverpool’s Egyptian King looks far from finished in the Premier League.  Mo Salah won and converted a penalty against West ham, but it was his overall contribution that impressed.  Salah’s creative ability is becoming as influential as his goalscoring.

Forwards
Ollie Watkins – Aston Villa
Aston Villa’s biggest goal scoring threat, Ollie Watkins had another weekend doing what he does best, sinking top teams.  Watkins showed great composure after a deep-run from the halfway line to win the game for Villa against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Son Heung-Min – Tottenham
Tottenham sealed themselves at top four contenders with their performance in the North London derby.  Son carried the team on his shoulders and stepped up with two huge equalizers to ensure the points were shared.
