The Premier League’s most overpaid players

It is no secret that the Premier League is one of the wealthiest sports competitions in the world. This allows clubs like Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal to attract the biggest names in the game with salaries few could only dream of.

Kevin De Bruyne’s £400,000 per week salary makes him the highest earner in the competition. Erling Haaland is next with £375 000, and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is third with £350 000 per week.

With figures as astronomical as these, it raises the question of which player is worth their earnings, and who are the most overpaid players in the Premier League this season?.

Intrigued, the football experts at Ticketgum examined the wage data of every Premier League player and compared it with their performances in the Premier League 23/24 so far this season to determine which players are the most overpaid.

Top 10 most overpaid Premier League goalkeepers:

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale is currently the most overpaid goalkeeper in the league. His new role as the Gunner’s second goalkeeper has undoubtedly had an impact on his contribution to the side. A first-team-level earner with only five appearances this season does not look good on the books. Surprisingly, Liverpool’s Alisson, who is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world, sits third on this list.

Top 10 most overpaid Premier League defenders:

Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell tops the list for the most overpaid defender in the Premier League. Chilwell has shown in the past that he is a high-quality defender, but his injury record has limited his availability. Interestingly, five of Manchester City’s defenders appear on this list, all earning huge wages in comparison to their competitors.

Top 10 most overpaid Premier League midfielders:

Belgian midfielder Leandro Dendoncker is shockingly the most overpaid midfielder in the Premier League. His minutes have been limited at Aston Villa under Unai Emery this season, and his contributions when on the pitch have been underwhelming. £115 million signing Moises Caicedo sits in fifth place on the list, with Chelsea’s poor form not helping the Colombian show his true value on the field.

Top 10 overpaid Premier League forwards:

West Ham’s Danny Ings tops the list, making him the most overpaid Premier League forward. Ing’s minutes have been limited this season due to the excellent form of Jarod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus. Four of Manchester United’s frontline players are among the most overpaid forwards in the Premier League, with Anthony ranking in fourth place.
