Why France will win the World Cup

Dylan Johnson looks at the factors that will make France the first team to regain the World Cup in 60 years, last achieved by a Pele-inspired Brazil.

The strength of the French lies in their attacking options with golden boot leader Kylian Mbappe proving once again he is not just the successor to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s reign but one of the best forwards in the game.

Argentina have shown they are vulnerable defensively, conceding opportunities that the likes of Mbappe would be more than capable of converting.

The midfield battle is where the game will be won as both sides have found a winning combination in the Semi-finals.  Antoine Griezmann has been utilized in a deeper more central role in midfield where he has been crucial in the French’s buildup play while still maintaining discipline on defense.

Aurelien Tchouameni has shown why Real Madrid spent 80 million pounds on the former AS Monaco midfielder, who has been key in orchestrating the midfield’s movement and shutting down attacking play, as well as contributing with a crucial goal against England.

Griezmann and Tchouameni will be in control against the less technically able Argentinian midfielders of Rodrigo De Paul and Leandro Paredes.

Despite Deschamps injury crisis, the French have continued to prove the doubters wrong with successful result after successful result. Even with the attacking threat of Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez, the French’s control of the midfield will decide who takes home the trophy.
