The ‘big three’ South African clubs had mixed results as the league season began this weekend with title-holders Mamelodi Sundowns winning, Kaizer Chiefs drawing and Orlando Pirates losing.
Mamelodi Sundowns are “so good winning is easy”, said coach Rhulani Mokwena after stretching an unbeaten South African Premiership run to 23 games with a 2-0 win at Marumo Gallants on Saturday.
Just days after clinching a sixth successive league title, Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a goalless draw by Cape Town City in the DStv Premiership on Tuesday night.
On Sunday, in thr DStv Premiership, TS Galaxy made light work of Richards Bay coasting to a 4-0 victory.
In the DStv Premiership, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates secured victories over Maritzburg United and SuperSport United respectively. AmaZulu were beaten 2-0 away at Stellenbosch.
On Sunday in the DStv Premiership, Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch FC. SuperSport United narrowly beat Golden Arrows 2-1.
In the DStv Premiership, Orlando Pirates bounced back after losing in the Soweto Derby, with a 4-1 victory over Swallows. Chiefs edge Richards Bay 1-0. Royal AM and Cape Town City also secured important victories.
On Saturday in the DStv Premiership, Kaizer Chiefs claimed a narrow 1-0 win in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates. Stellenbosch FC and Cape Town City beat Richards Bay and Sekhukhune respectively. While AmaZulu drew with Royal AM.
SuperSport United remain unbeaten at home after beating Maritzburg United 2-0 at home in the DStv Premiership on Friday night.
