Kaizer Chiefs moved up to third place in the DStv Premiership standings despite playing out to a goalless draw against Cape Town City at the DHL Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Stuart Baxter made their changes to his side as Erick Mathoho, Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Reeve Frosler were named in the lineup in place of Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Siyabonga Ngezana.
The Citizens showed their intent early on and nearly took the lead in the third minute after Jaedin Rhodes caught Brandon Peterson off his line before attempting a lobbed effort at goal but the debutant saw his effort sail over the crossbar.
Craig Martin then came to his sides rescue moments later when he made a crucial last-ditch challenge to prevent Keagan Dolly a scoring opportunity in the final third.
City’s new signing Mogamat May had a chance to get his name on the score sheet with 10 minutes to play in the half when he beat his marker to try and pick out the bottom left corner but Petersen did well to keep his effort out.
City’s new signing May was proving to be a threat with his pace and trickery and he took on Cardoso and tried to find the bottom corner with his left foot however Peterson kept the scores level with an excellent save as the game went into the half time break.
Dolly should have broken the deadlock early in the second half when he unleashed an effort from outside the box but the Chiefs attacker saw his effort crash against the side netting.
Peterson was called into action 10 minutes later after he made a comfortable save to deny Khanyisa Mayo, who tried to bend the ball into the back of the net with a curling effort after he was played through by Mduduzi Mdantsane.
Both sides pressed forward in the closing stages of the game as they went in search of the winning goal but neither side could find the back of the net as the match ended goalless in Cape Town.
