Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter has revealed that Keagan Dolly will miss Sunday’s crucial 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier against Libya, but Bongani Zungu, Kamohelo Mokotjo and Rivaldo Coetzee are all fit.
Dolly was included in Baxter’s squad despite making just four Ligue 1 appearances for Montpellier this season after a serious knee injury.
Baxter had admitted when he named his squad that although Dolly, and Zungu, had been ruled fit by their club doctors, they still needed to prove their fitness in the Bafana training camp.
The British coach, however, revealed on Thursday that Dolly had been ruled out of the upcoming game with an unrelated injury but the trio of doubtful players in Zungu, Coetzee and Mokotjo would all be available.
‘Keagan had been doing very well in training but has had to be ruled out of this encounter due to stiffness in his right hamstring,’ Baxter told the SAFA website.
‘We are fully aware that both him and Bongani Zungu came into the camp after being declared medically fit to play, but with the different weather conditions we have had, and training on different pitches throughout the week, this has caused some strain on Keagan. The good news, however, is that Bongani though is looking very good in training and has really pushed himself.
‘We also had a little scare with Kamo (Kamogelo Mokotjo) a few days ago, when he had a swollen Achilles but he is now fine and raring to go. Rivaldo Coetzee, who also came into the camp with a little strain from his weekend match, has done very well and there are no worries about him,’ he concluded.
Bafana only need to pick up a point in Sfax on Sunday to secure their spot at the 2019 Afcon in Egypt.
