South African Football Association (Safa) president Danny Jordaan has confirmed that the Confederation of African Football (Caf) wants South Africa to step in as hosts of the 2019 African Nations Cup.
Cameroon were recently stripped of the hosting rights by Caf governing body due to delays over their preparations for the tournament.
However, the governing body now sees South Africa as Cameroon’s potential replacement as host of the continental competition.
Jordaan revealed at the Safa AGM in Sandton on Sunday that the Caf governing body has asked SA consider stepping in and taking over as host nation.
Safa will now meet the SA government before making a decision on whether or not to accept the request from Caf.
