Mamelodi Sundowns completed a historic double over Al Ahly in the Caf Champions League this past weekend with defender Lyle Lakay bagging a double of his own as he was named in the competition’s Team of the Week for a second consecutive match week.
The Brazilians produced a big performance against the defending champions and former coach Pitso Mosimane on Saturday to become the first team in 20 years to beat the Egyptian giants in consecutive group-stage games.
One of the Downs star performers on the day was left back Lakay, who produced a scintillating display both in defence and while pushing forward to earn a spot in the competition Team of the Week for match-week four.
Lakay was also named in match-week three’s Team of the Week after his side’s famous win in Cairo over Ahly, but Kennedy Mweene and Rushine De Rueck also got the nod that week.
The news caps a fantastic week for the defender, who was also named in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad for the first time ever.
