Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he does not want to go into their final Caf Champions League group game needing to win at all costs.
The Brazilians will take on Lobi Stars in their penultimate Group A encounter at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
Sundowns are currently level on seven points with Wydad after playing four games so far in the group and are within a chance of topping the group if they can get a result against Stars.
‘No, you don’t want that [to go to Wydad needing to win at all costs]. Do you want to go to North Africa and you want a result? What does the history say with all the South African clubs when we go to North Africa?’ Mosimane told the media.
‘We won once or twice against Zamalek and we won against [ES] Setif. But when was that? It was in 2016 and now we are in 2019. It’s not an easy one. If it’s easy, then go to North Africa and win. No ways my friend, it’s tough.
‘You don’t want to go to Wydad and you need a result.’
The Sundowns mentor believes Wydad will struggle with the pitch condition when they travel to Abidjan when they take on
ASEC Mimosas in their respective group stage encounter.
‘The game in Abidjan is a tough one. It’s not tough because ASEC is very good, no. It’s a different pitch. Just go on that pitch, it’s sand. I ask myself Ivory Coast national team players play there? It compromises them sometimes.’
