SuperSport United coach Eric Tinkler would like his side to go all the way to the Caf Confederation Cup final and claim the trophy.
Matsatsantsa advanced to the next round of the tournament, following their comfortable 4-1 victory over CF Mounana at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
Tinkler’s side finished second in Group D, while TP Mazembe topped the group after their win over Horoya at the Stade TP Mazembe.
The 46-year-old says his side will have to do their homework on the side from Zambia, if they want to stand any chance of processing to the next round.
“We go to Zesco, at least it’s not a long trip. It’s a nice close trip, close to home,” Tinkler said.
“But the opposition is strong, they are a good team. We need to study them very carefully and make sure we put in a good performance and move on.
“We would love to get to the final and win it.”
Tinkler admits that Supersport had a better first half and he believes they struggled to keep the same momentum in the second half, which led up to the visiting side scoring a goal.
“It was a professional display in the first half. I thought we started the game very well, very positive, good formation, good movement,” he said.
“We were looking to get the ball wide and that’s where we created problems for them and very nice goals.
“The second half was not good. We tried to motivate them at half-time, explaining the importance of getting the 5th goal, the 6th goal and be professional in our application and attitude, but we didn’t show it.
“We didn’t look good. We looked like we did not trust our formation. Bradly Grobler was playing high and not in the pocket like he did in first half. Thuso (Phala) was playing high and so was Thabo [Mnyamane].
“We were too sloppy and gave away the goal. But overall I am happy we’re moving to the next stage of the competition.”
SuperSport United will now take on Zesco United in the quarter-final of the Caf Confederation Cup at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on 8 September 2017.
The kick-off time for the match is yet to be determined.
